I would struggle to find any words that have not already been used when speaking about this young man. All the superlatives are gone, this is fact, I checked. What must he have been thinking just before last night’s game?
“I’m about to play my debut for Manchester United, they are one of the biggest football clubs in the world. We need to win this game because we only managed a draw last time. Millions of people all over the world will be watching. What do I do?”
Or did he just think
“3 Months is a bloody long time, give me the ball.”
Whatever he was thinking he went out and did his stuff, continuing the amazing form he showed in Euro 2004. To have such a cool head on such young shoulders beggars belief.
Of course talent doesn’t guarantee success, how many times have we seen this? We know bad things happen to young players with bags of talent. This is why any talk of Wayne Rooney always leads to talk of doom and gloom. A good reason to believe that his recent move down the Old Lancs Road swapping his Blue of Everton for The Red Devils and more importantly entering into the stewardship of Sir Alex Ferguson can only be good for the lad. As a Liverpool fan I hope I’m wrong, as and England fan I hope he goes from strength to strength and leads us to glory in Germany.
Despite the current bad feeling I have towards the England squad for their cold shoulder after the Poland game I will still be watching them next week against Wales. I will be doing this for one reason I don’t think I have to tell you who this is.
