Yesterday I watched a program on BBC1 about people suffering with [find this out]. This disease causes people to fall asleep at the most inappropriate time. This happens because the brain shuts down all the muscles. This is something that happens naturally every night when we go to sleep to stop us physically acting out our dreams. But for the young girl aspiring to be a dancer this happens to her all the time and there is no cure.
My point for bringing this up is that it got me thinking, we know very little about what really goes on in the human brain. We know the brain shuts down the body when asleep but we don’t know how. We know this girl’s brain does this whenever it feels like but we don’t know why. We also know that the average human being only uses 10 to 15% of our brains capacity.
We have devised theories to explain how our universe works, or at least our little corner of it. The human brain as allowed us to explain everything from our DNA building blocks to the movement of the planets, but it won’t let us get inside. So we keep trying, scans of the brain will show us which parts are active when, this has helped us determine which bits do what, we still don’t know how. It’s probably best that we don’t as well
On the bright side at least we no longer pass thousands of volts of electricity through the head or drill holes in the skull, so we’re getting somewhere.
