I’ve recently been watching NBC’s Heroes which is currently showing in the UK on Sci Fi. Now there’s been a lot of hype about this program but I’ve got to say as of yet I’m not overly impressed.
Watching TV is something I enjoy doing. I’m currently hooked on Jericho & Lost. I’ve loved Primeval and the ending of Stargate SG-1 has left a whole in my life that I’m struggling to fill (Ok may be that’s a bit extreme but you know what I mean).

Heroes though is just not gripping me like those and indeed many others usually do. How a program about mutants can be boring I really don’t know. I mean it’s essential X-Man without the skin tight rubber suits!!! Heroes though manages it. It’s lightly entertaining i’ll give you that but It is rarely, if ever suprising. The idea that these peoples lifes re intertwined is an intergral part of the story yet we’re supposed to be shocked when they bump into each other.
The theory behind Heroes is that these people are the next step on the evolutionary ladder. (again X-Men). What I’ve never understood about this whole idea is why? Now I was never any good at biology so you’ll have to bear with me on this but why are there so many different variations on the next rung of the evolutionary ladder? If it’s a fact that the most adaptable survive then when is come to the cheerleader that can regenerate or the boy that can fly. My money would be on the guy that can do both.
The show maintains the idea that these people are on a mission to safe the world, and this back story is enough to keep me coming back to see what happens, some of the characters (my favourtie is Hiro fyi) are likable enough for me to stay tuned and the art work painted by the guy he paints the future is outstanding.
I’ll watch it till the end, because that’s just what I do.
Also despite it’s flaws it’s better than most things on UK tv. It’s not better than Lost or Jericho and it’s not in the same league as 24 (nothing is) but it’s better than everything else and it has mutants in it!
